In prisons and immigration removal centres (IRCs) we pride ourselves on providing high quality, clinically effective and efficient healthcare which empowers people to take their health seriously. We deliver healthcare to thousands of patients in prisons and IRCs nationwide.
Everyone in prison is entitled to an equivalent level of NHS healthcare they could expect to receive in the community. Services are delivered under one roof by a team of caring, skilled and compassionate professionals working together to meet a range of needs.
On arrival, each person receives a comprehensive assessment covering physical and mental health, substance misuse, social care needs and wider social circumstances. From the outset, we deliver integrated, person-centred care through a multidisciplinary team, ensuring needs are met both on entry and throughout their time in our care.
Where specialist treatment is required, we work in partnership with prison teams to support safe and timely access to hospital appointments.
Our non-custodial services support people at every stage of the justice pathway – before, during and after contact with the criminal justice system.
We provide screening and assessment at key points in the criminal justice pathway, including when individuals first come into contact with the system and as they prepare to leave prison. This helps us identify needs, risks and vulnerabilities early.
We then offer targeted support to help people access the community-based care they need, addressing the underlying health-related drivers of offending while enabling individuals to remain safely in the community.
We also support people through the court process, working alongside the judiciary to provide informed advice and delivering court-ordered mental health treatment. This helps ensure fair, effective and compassionate outcomes from court proceedings.
Central to everything we do is a commitment to lived experience. People with direct experience of the justice system shape our service design, delivery and improvement- ensuring our support is authentic, responsive and capable of achieving meaningful, lasting change.
